New Hardware Management Console Runs on POWER, Eliminating Data Center Complexity

The POWER-Based Rack-Mounted HMC Appliance

The POWER-based HMC is an appliance built with a 1U rack-mount OpenPOWER server. As always, this new HMC will manage all PowerVM functions of one or more POWER6, POWER7 and POWER8 servers.

The HMC is delivered with its machine code preinstalled on the hard disk drive. After the system is installed and connected to a managed system, you can perform system management tasks. The HMC is a closed, dedicated system and does not allow the installation of additional application software.

The HMC has the following standard hardware attributes:

  • 1U base configuration
  • POWER8 120 W 6c CPU 1
  • 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) of DDR4 system memory
  • 2 x 2 TB SATA LFF 3.5-inch HDD RAID 1
  • Rail bracket option for round hole rack mounts
  • Two USB 3.0 hub ports in the front of the server
  • Two USB 3.0 hub ports in the rear of the server
  • Redundant 1 kW power supplies
  • 4 x 10 Gb Ethernet Ports
  • 1 x 1 Gb Ethernet Port for Management (BMC)
  • Warranty: Base 1 year 9x5 with optional upgrades

These new HMC offerings will be initially released in North America, with worldwide availability to follow shortly thereafter. If you’re interested in testing or deploying these new offerings in your managed IBM Power Systems environment, contact your IBM sales representative or business partner.
