The increasing amount of assets, data, transactions and analytics involved in today’s IT infrastructure makes them inherently more dynamic. With the February unveiling of the new servers featuring the POWER7* chip (see “POWER7 Unveiled,” www.ibmsystemsmag.com/power/february10/coverstory/31497p1.aspx), IBM has positioned its Power Systems* offerings firmly into the dynamic infrastructure fold.

“As you start to interconnect the ‘Internet of things’ in addition to the Internet of people, you’re going to have a dramatic increase in the number of things you have to manage,” says Scott Handy, vice president, Power Systems Worldwide Marketing for IBM. “Today’s current infrastructures, which are often more stagnant and fixed, need to be more dynamic to handle that change. Dynamic infrastructure is the solution underneath what a smarter system has to do.”

IBM Systems Magazine, Power Systems edition recently sat down with Handy to learn more about how the POWER7 announcement can help customers achieve a dynamic infrastructure.

You can consolidate several hundred Sun servers onto a Power 770, for instance. A customer could get dramatic savings by doing just that. —Scott Handy, vice president, Power Systems Worldwide Marketing, IBM
