Most people don’t know that I was a National United States Soccer Federation soccer referee. Soccer is one of my passions. I have spent many years traveling the world refereeing Armed Forces finals in Europe, NCAA matches, National U.S. Soccer finals, high school finals and professional games, including two preliminary World Cup matches.

As an IBM Champion for the fifth consecutive year, I am also passionate about the new IBM POWER9* scale-out family.

I see several use cases where the POWER9 systems will provide market leadership and immediate customer acceptance. Besides the obvious upgrade path for previous IBM Power Systems* running AIX*, IBM i, and Linux*, I see strong acceptance in new Linux use cases supporting SAP HANA, extreme data and analytics solutions, as well as exploitation of artificial intelligence.

Also, clients utilizing hyperconverged systems can now exploit POWER9 on the Power* technology-based Nutanix offering. These scale-out POWER9 systems, in conjunction with the AC922 with integrated Nvidia GPUs, provide the ideal systems to move into the future of cognitive computing.

Soccer and POWER9: Both winners, in my book!
