How did you end up in IT? My first job in IT was being a technical support representative for an internet service provider in my hometown. At the same time, I completed an Associate of Science degree program at my local community college.

What’s the biggest challenge facing your company today? The rural locations of stores and distribution centers make it difficult to adopt cloud or private cloud options due to the internet infrastructure.

What IBM product could your company not function without? IBM i plays a critical role in keeping the company running smoothly at all levels.

What trends are affecting your work? Large tax breaks last year allowed the company to purchase new hardware. That kept me really busy, but now I’m reaping the benefits of a revamped infrastructure and high availability.

Who’s been your greatest mentor? What role has that person played in your life or career? My wife has done a tremendous job of instilling confidence in me and helping me believe that I’m capable of doing great things.

What’s your favorite part of your day and why? Getting to hang out with my kids, who highly admire me. It helps assure me I’m doing all the right things as a dad.

What’s been your biggest accomplishment? Passing the IBM i System Administrator exam. Not an easy test!

What’s your favorite activity outside of work? I love to play video games when I get the chance.

What’s your favorite book or movie? I’ll go with favorite video game: “The Legend of Zelda.”

What’s the geekiest thing you’ve ever owned? I once owned a Shuttle computer that had the logo of the World Cyber Games on it.

What superpower do you wish you had? Super strength so I could annihilate “Ninja Warrior” courses!

If money were no object, what would you purchase and why? A base on the moon (for no particular reason).

What’s your favorite sound? I like listening to the sounds of modern ’80s music—synthesizers and electric guitars.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? One of my favorite Bible verses. Proverbs 27:17, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Always seek out wise people and use your wisdom to help others.
