The IBM and IBM Power Systems* team is constantly looking for new ways to deliver clients greater value and stronger solutions so they can discover more significant market opportunities. To that end, we must first provide our clients and partners with superior technologies, continuous innovations, and exceptional support and learning opportunities. We don’t take the last of these three lightly. Each year, IBM joins its clients for four days of education, training and networking at the COMMON Annual Meeting and Exposition. For more than 50 years, the conference has delivered valuable training to help attendees strengthen their business strategies and transform their businesses for the future. Whether or not you attend this year, here are four takeaways from the event:

1. Evolving IBM Power Technology

For two decades, IBM has delivered industry-leading solutions to address clients’ data-centric applications and mission-critical workloads. On Feb. 5, IBM introduced new Power Systems servers based on POWER7+* technologies, geared toward organizations looking to quickly embrace technology, such as cloud and big data, in rapidly growing markets. POWER7+ technology offers faster processors, larger cache, PowerVM* virtualization and PowerSC* security enhancements, and new pricing on some models that’s comparable to x86.

2. Powerful Software Innovation for All Three Operating Systems

Software is another important piece of our solutions that aids our clients in capturing new growth, strengthening productivity and preparing them for the future. During the conference, IBM provides key training across all three operating systems, focusing on innovations announced this year to address clients’ workload challenges.

One such innovation supporting the software-defined environment is EasyOptimize software for system and workload tuning. EasyOptimize capabilities are composed of the IBM Dynamic Platform Optimizer—available on all POWER7+ systems and Power* 795 and running on AIX*, IBM i and Linux*—and IBM AIX Dynamic System Optimizer.

Also, the infusion of cloud, social and mobile as well as digital intelligence is changing the way organizations approach what they do. We’re also enabling our clients to easily adapt their applications and support in these critical areas. For example, recent IBM i deliveries enable development of new applications for mobile devices with Zend Studio for PHP applications. We’re also enabling mobile devices with JT Open Lite and providing new and exciting IBM social solutions like IBM Connections, Lotus* Notes* Traveler and IBM Mobile Database.

Our sustained investments in all three operating systems, integration and systems innovation will continue to help differentiate our clients in a competitive marketplace.

3. 25 Years of IBM i Innovation

Clients such as Bank Ekonomi Raharja ibm.co/Z1SyjI and Plastipak Packaging ibm.co/YtGTgK have selected IBM i on Power Systems to meet business objectives and strengthen their organization’s market opportunities. Throughout the years, clients have grown to depend on its highly reliable and available services. Passionate and knowledgeable user groups have worked for many years to provide education and networking opportunities to our Power community and they continue to help us enhance our IBM i technology.

This year, we join with clients during COMMON to begin the celebration of 25 years of IBM i. Our commitment to IBM i innovation and users worldwide won’t end there, as we will continue to build upon a quarter century of expertise. You’ll see some interesting commemorations between now and the anniversary in June.

4. Ongoing Commitment

IBM remains committed to delivering superior innovations in Power Systems technology and system software, as well as exploring new technology frontiers, products, partnerships and educational support. If you’re at COMMON, stop by the IBM booth to meet our experts and tap into their expertise. If you’re not attending COMMON, look for more information on IBM Power solutions in upcoming issues of the magazine.
