IBM TechU Delivers a True Learning Environment

Our last IBM Systems Technical University (TechU) of the year in Fortaleza, Brazil has come to a close. It’s been a banner year for TechU on many fronts. Over the last few decades of delivering global IBM training events, we’ve adapted and improved our conference offerings in response to feedback from our clients.
Here are some highlights from this year’s TechU:
  • The total worldwide attendance was over 8,000, up 17 percent from 2017
  • Added events in four new regions across six continents
  • Customer satisfaction scores are up 5 percent from the already high scores received in 2017
  • Content satisfaction scores are averaging in the high 90 percent range
But as I reflect back on the year, I’m most proud of the innovative progress we made at making TechU a true learning environment and not just a place to get information.

What's New With TechU?

TechU is the premier place for deep technical learning on IBM products and solutions. Attendees learn from IBM Distinguished Engineers, developers and product experts—the A-team of the IBM community.
In 2018, we significantly bolstered our portfolio of offerings to better help our clients succeed. Some highlighted new offerings from 2018 include:
  • The z/OS for Rookies track, which was delivered in five TechU events on four continents
  • Integrated online learning in our z/OS for Rookies track
  • A deep set of classroom sessions paired with informal settings where customers were given one-on-one help
  • Integrated hackathons
  • An increased number of hands-on labs
  • A higher number of digital badges that attendees could earn to showcase their expertise
  • More opportunities for networking with technical experts

Looking Forward to 2019

As we look toward 2019, our focus is to continue to grow the effectiveness of learning at TechU. At face value, a lecture might seem like an efficient means of conveying information. But effective learning happens best when online learning is combined with a lecture and hands-on labs, and is followed by small group and one-on-one time with experts. This comprehensive learning approach delivers optimum skill building. When you build your skills, you build your value to your company, clients and colleagues.
TechU isn’t just something people attend—it’s something they experience. We’re excited about the experiences and opportunities that await in 2019. To learn more about our events, check out the 2019 TechU calendar.
