As is true with so many topics today, there are volumes and volumes of information on the Internet regarding z/OS migration. But a search on z/OS migration usually results in so many hits many of which are outdated or irrelevant that one finds oneself overwhelmed and in the position of trying to separate the wheat from the chaff. Where among all those hits are the ones that will provide you with meaningful direction, or with useful information to augment your migration to a current release of z/OS? How can you find what you need without spending hours or days weeding through all the references a search engine provides you, and what are the right search keywords to get what you want?

Based on the extensive research and searches it took to build the z/OS Migration Starter Kit (and then fill it with these and more specific references, see ), and after creating numerous articles and Webcasts on the subject, I've compiled a list of best references for z/OS V1.7 migration.

Don't forget, z/OS 1.4 and 1.5 are only supported until 3/31/2007, and z/OS 1.6 is supported for only six months more, until September 2007 (projected). z/OS 1.7 gives you an additional year of support beyond any of these releases. Most germaine of all, z/OS 1.7 is the last release to provide coexistence/fallback support with z/OS 1.4. Lastly, it will not be possible to order z/OS 1.7 after September of this year (projected), and no release earlier than that can be ordered as of 10/24/2005. For a z/OS 1.4 installation to upgrade to z/OS 1.8 or later, you will almost certainly have to upgrade to z/OS 1.7 first. So if you haven't already completely migrated to z/OS 1.7, you need to put specific plans in place now.

Hopefully the references listed below will help, and good luck with your migration!
