ACOM Solutions, Inc

Improving Document-Intensive Processing for IBM i Clients

Share |

Originally, ACOM started in the equipment financing business, with a specific focus on leasing IBM printers. When laser printing technology was commercially introduced in the mid 1980s, ACOM’s founder, Ed Kennedy, had the vision of taking this technology to the AS/400* market. The motivation and opportunity was to present an alternative to costly impact printers that were slow, awkward and with expensive multipart, preprinted forms. Kennedy hired a developer, and in a few short months connectivity between the laser printer and IBM AS/400 was born. The solution was presented to the market with great success as the ACOM “Link Box.”

The original Link Box required a reasonable amount of custom programming. With increasing demand for this technology, ACOM quickly developed software eliminating the need for this customization: a 1980s version of “plug-and-play,” if you will, but for the AS/400! That was the beginning of QuickCheck software, which handled MICR printing to the MICR laser printer.

With extraordinary success in the IBM i environment, the next logical business move was to focus on further development of document processing solutions for IBM i. ACOM soon released its document management solution EZeDocs/400 and EZPayManager/400 for electronic payments. ACOM now presented solutions for managing the entire document and accounts payable lifecycle for IBM i clients, from automating the capture, printing and processing of their information to managing physical and electronic payments.

After 30 years and with IBM i clients comprising more than half of its customers, ACOM is a leading provider of IBM i solutions for document output, payment management and document management. The company’s products extend the capabilities of the IBM i platform with powerful Web-based solutions that manage document creation, distribution and information archival. Its solutions improve document-intensive processes and enable clients to enhance customer satisfaction by reducing time to process customer interactions while increasing worker productivity. ACOM clients experience a dramatic improvement in their organization’s efficiency and overall bottom line by eliminating manual-based business tasks, paper and storage costs.
