Product Review: Spool Organizer/400 from Broderick Data Systems

What I'd Like to See in the Next Release

  • LODRUN for the installation process
  • Single thread the batch tasks
  • A GUI interface-I spoke at length with folks from Broderick on this topic. While I agree with them that the products green-screen front-end as it currently exists and is marketed works fine, when examining future trends and how the iSeries is currently perceived by the marketplace, GUI is what people are asking for.

Broderick does a good job of covering the basics in spool management that IBM hasn't put in the base OS.

I didn't perform cycle timings, but Spool Organizer/400 seemed to run efficiently on my Model 170, and I was able to do most of the conversion and offline functionality that I needed to.

It was nice to see efficient native PDF functionality. The product also provides the capability to move and distribute reports smoothly. Report archiving and retrieval was smooth as well.

So, if you have a friend down the street who's having problems with users not getting their reports or perhaps needing them in a different format, you may want to shoot him or her Brodericks URL. This just might solve some problems.
