Incorporating DB2 Web Query Into Applications

Binary shares lessons learned to harness its power

Dashboards

Another solution Binary implemented is a rolling dashboard that can be viewed by a department. This dashboard is enabled to run many queries, it also contains support for outside Web-service invocations like getting stock-market prices.

The implementation involved a portal server. The SDK module was used to integrate DB2 Web Query into a number of portlets, via Web service calls.

One-Two Punch

Whether a customer is opening new sessions, modernizing applications, developing reusable services and dashboards, or scheduling reports, EGL and DB2 Web Query are an excellent solution to many application development challenges. With the introduction of the Report Broker module, DB2 Web Query is now a powerful addition to any existing application.

Binary has found the SDK module provides much flexibility to DB2 Web Query. EGL can be used to hide integration complexities from users. If we take it one step further to use EGL to create services, then the development team working on the integration doesn’t have to understand DB2 Web Query at all. Together, it’s a one-two punch.
