What Would You Ask Ross Mauri?

October 28, 2008

By Evelyn Hoover

Just the other day I heard about the death of Tom Jarosh, a former general manager of what is now the i platform. Tom was the first GM I recall working with 10 years ago when I was named managing editor of AS/400 Magazine. He always seemed larger than life. Much has changed since then, the box has had several new names and several general managers. And the magazine has changed along with it--getting new names and sister publications in the AIX and mainframe space.

It is ironic that I heard of Tom's passing right after I wrote Jon and Susan asking them to let me borrow their blog space this week. Ironic because I am blogging to get some ideas about questions to ask the current Power Systems GM, Ross Mauri. The magazine will be interviewing him soon to ask him about the future of i (and in light of the most recent earnings news with i declining at a dramatic rate, this is a timely topic).

I don't know Ross, haven't officially met him, so I don't know if he's more like Tom Jarosh or Mark Shearer or some GM in between, but I give Ross credit for the letter he recently wrote to the i community. But I still have questions about what the Power Systems unification means to i. I'm sure you do too.

So what would you, the user of the i platform, ask him if you had the chance? I can't guarantee your question will be asked, but I'll try to include as many questions from the community as I can.

Thanks for your time and consideration. And thanks, Jon and Susan, for indulging me. They'll be back in this space next week.
