    Route DB2 Requests to a Specific Subsystem

    We all know that a key advantage to IBM i is the work management capabilities, in particular the ability to segregate work into different subsystems. One of the more challenging areas for this, however, has been prestart server jobs.  By default, these prestart jobs run in the QUSRWRK subsystem.  You can configure the subsystem in which these prestart server jobs run by routing the requests based upon the client IP address, but that’s often not sufficient.  Many requests may come from one IP address, or perhaps you would like to segregate work based upon some other criteria - for example, the requesting user profile.

    IBM i 7.2 Improved Temporary Storage Tracking (Part 6)

    The IBM i Temporary Storage Service allows you to use SQL to retrieve information about the temporary storage buckets. You can view the temporary storage buckets in Navigator for i, but there is no command interface to display that information. If you need a text-based interface to display the buckets, this temporary storage service is how you do it.

    Tracking IBM i System Limits, Part 2

    My last blog was an Introduction to IBM i System Limits and Maximum Capacities. In that blog, I introduced System Health Services, which allow you to track system limits. System limits tracking support is provided via DB2 PTFs, so be sure to install the latest DB2 Group PTF when you start to explore this capability. The limits tracked vary by release and DB2 Group PTF level.

    Access Client Solutions – a Better 5250 Emulator

    Hopefully you are aware of the IBM i Access Client Solutions offering. This has been available for more than two years. IBM is continuing to update and enhance this product with the 1.1.4 version released in February of this year. Check the Web page linked above to find out about updates (yes, clients have asked IBM to provide a better way to be notified about updates…)
