IBM Champions: Nomination Period Ends Soon

November 7, 2017

I've been an IBM employee for the past two years. Prior to that, I was an IBM Champion.

Everyone who works with IBM solutions should be aware of the IBM Champions program. Though the name may make you think otherwise, it's not an internal IBM thing. It's a way to recognize technology professionals who advocate for IBM products and solutions, like Db2.

In my case, I was contacted by someone in the Db2 community who asked if I would accept a nomination to become an IBM Champion. Although I'd been writing about and speaking on Db2 for years, at the time I'd never heard of the program. But I was honored to be nominated and even more excited once I learned about the IBM Champions program.

While the recognition was appreciated--I received nice IBM accessories and had my picture and name listed during the kickoff of IDUG conferences--the IBM Champions program means much more than that. I've always found it rewarding to share what I know and what I've experienced working with Db2. With previous employers I'd teach internal workshops to IT staff. I also worked with students, teaching database management at Concordia University in Chicago. These days I present at conferences and user group meetings, and I write this blog and publish other articles. Doing these things has opened doors in my career, and hopefully I've helped others in their careers.

But I'm just one person. There are lots of accomplished IT pros out there, sharing their knowledge and helping others. The IBM Champions program is designed to recognize these individuals for the time and effort they've put into informing and educating others about IBM solutions.

The next group of IBM Champions will be announced in early 2018. Nominations close on Nov. 13--in the next few days.

IBM Champion nominations are open from October 9, 2017 to November 13, 2017.

If you know someone who's worthy of this honor--or if you yourself meet the criteria--please take a few minutes and complete the nomination form today.
