Submitting an RFE

May 8, 2018

I was recently asked about submitting a request for enhancement (RFE) for Db2 for z/OS. The answer is simple: Just go to IBM developerWorks and conduct an appropriate search (e.g., "Db2 for z").

Before making a new request, search the existing RFEs and vote for the items you feel should be implemented. Only create a new request if you don't see yours listed. Once you do create an RFE, ask your colleagues to vote and raise its priority.

As of this writing, these are top RFEs by votes:
  1. Display procedure should show app environment of next execution.
  2. Provide SCOPE(GROUP) option for STOP/START PROFILE.
  3. AUTOBIND should issues diagnostics messages when fail (identify the package and reason of failure).
  4. ARCRETN separation for copy1 and 2.
  5. DB2 trusted contexts should allow ADDRESS wildcarding.
  6. Allow REBIND of in-use dynamic SQL packages.
  7. New DB2z "LOCKMAXCANCEL" tablespace characteristic: cancel thread when N locks have been reached.
  8. Math function changes in Db2 12.
  9. DB2 z/OS V11 NFM: 6-byte LOG RBA limit reached for BASIC format objects.
  10. Registration of unload utility.
If you're interested in the future of Db2, you should review RFEs and vote periodically. And if you are active in this area, please share your experiences in comments.
