A Look at Upcoming Db2 Conferences

January 23, 2018

I was recently asked about Db2 conferences and which provide the most technical content. Short answer: the long-standing SHARE and IDUG conferences.
IBM has also hosted a Db2 conference in recent years. What is known known as THINK has undergone renaming and rebranding. More on that in a bit.
The next SHARE conference is less than two months off--it's set for March 11-16 in Sacramento, Calif. As an attendee, one thing I like about SHARE is that I can learn about topics related to Db2, like new storage technologies. I've also attended sessions on networking and security. I feel this helps me better understand other IT pros with whom I often work. At the upcoming SHARE conference, you can learn all about pervasive encryption, machine learning, cognitive analytics, blockchain, Docker, IBM z topics and of course, Db2 12.
The next IDUG Tech Conference is April 29 to May 3 in Philadelphia. Here are some highlights I gleaned from the site:
Attendees will experience:
  • Five days of education sessions
  • Half and full-day workshops
  • More than 100 one-hour technical sessions
  • Three expert panels on z/OS, LUW & Application Development
While IDUG and SHARE aim some of their sessions toward the executive level, if you're a technology decision-maker, IBM's THINK 2018 is likely the most appropriate venue for you. This event, which last year was called WOW (World of Watson), targets executives and management. Sessions are intended to help attendees understand trends and position their companies for the future.
