How to Determine Current Db2 Function Level

August 30, 2017

With the introduction of continuous delivery making it possible for customers to put new features into production through regular maintenance, awareness of Db2 function levels takes on greater importance. So how do you determine what level you're at and what level of maintenance has been applied?

There are two ways to do this. One option is to run the –ACTIVATE FUNCTION LEVEL (V12R1M500) TEST command, which checks whether the subsystem or data sharing group is ready for the specified function level. By specifying TEST, the output includes detailed information about each active member of the data sharing group. You'll see the group eligible for function level, catalog level, current function level, highest activated function level and highest possible function level. For data sharing groups, you'll see an entry for each member along with the current code level:

This information is also stored in the SYSIBM.SYSLEVELUPDATES catalog table, which contains these columns:

The IBM Knowledge Center has more information about function levels, code levels, catalog levels and application compatibility levels.
