Robert E. Fontana Jr.

Robert E. Fontana Jr. is a Research Scientist in the Head, Actuator and Assembly Development Department in IBM Systems at the Almaden Research Center. His technical activities are with magnetic device structures; spanning contributions in magnetic bubble memories, HDD magnetic recording heads, and tape magnetic recording heads. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and holds 112 issued patents and has authored 44 technical papers in the area of magnetic device structures for storage applications. He received his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
